Product Description

Completed projects Cappellini The Progetti Compiuti containers designed by Shiro Kuramata are represented by a series of various types of chest of drawers: the drawer units in two different shapes SIDE 1 / SIDE 2 (1970); SOLARIS (1977), a cabinet with drawers in wood and metal; PC_12 (1970), a piece of furniture on wheels with 49 asymmetrical drawers. The basic structure of the Progetti Compiuti containers is proposed in black stained ash wood. The drawers of SIDE 1, SIDE and PC_12 are in matt white lacquer, while those of Solaris are coordinated in color and material with the structure. Icon of design, Shiro Kuramata is the Japanese designer who has best interpreted the spirit of his time with significant products and creations. In 1965 he founded the Kuramata Design Office in Tokyo which remained in existence until 1991, the year of his death, counting numerous projects that have entered the Olympus of product design. Kuramata comes into contact with Italian design first through Memphis, then, in 1987, with Cappellini who introduces the Progetti Compiuti family of drawers to the Collection. All Kuramata pieces made for the company enjoy great appreciation, such as the Steel Pipe Drink Trolley, the Sofa With Arms armchair, the Ko-Ko coffee table, the Bookshelf bookcase and the Revolving Cabinet. All of Kuramata’s projects are still extremely topical, and are present in the permanent collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, the MoMA in New York, the Metropolitan Museum, the Vitra Design Museum and the Toyama Museum of Modern Art. pc_8
